AMAZONIA UNDER PRESSURE

Marcelo Salazar / ISA
The Amazon is a region that has attracted the world's attention for its huge biodiversity, broad hydrographic network, cultural diversity, and the role it plays in regulating the climate as the most extensive continuous tropical forest on the planet. However, great transformations in the landscape, the composition of its population, and its future prospects put at risk the maintenance of the natural and cultural elements that characterize it.

The team of scientists, researchers, and cartographers of the RAISG, are committed to bringing to light the principal threats for Amazon, proposing innovative solutions based on data and evidence that can ensure for present and future generations the well-being of its inhabitants and the protection of these invaluable ecosystems.

The "Amazon Under Pressure" Atlas, presents the serious situation of the Amazon region and its peoples, as a result of road and hydroelectric megaprojects, the promotion of extractive industries, and the growth of illegal activities. This analysis is crucial to promote the maintenance of a system as complex as Amazon Biome.
